MCMGA Guidance for Chapter Educational Projects and Activities

As Multnomah County Master Gardener™ Association (MCMGA) members, we have opportunities to develop innovative educational programming to support the OSU Extension Master Gardener Program’s mission and our Chapter’s mission:

OSU Master Gardener Program

We provide accessible and equitable education programs that nurture life-long learners and volunteers who can expand the reach and impact of  science-based sustainable gardening practices to benefit all Oregonians.

Multnomah County Master Gardener Association
Growing, Educating & Connecting Communities.

We share research-based knowledge with the public to promote sustainable gardening practices.  Our work supports and enhances the Oregon State University Extension Master Gardener Program.

The MCMGA Chapter is committed to supporting projects that elevate the knowledge and skills of our Master Gardeners and the wider gardening public - educational outreach that reflects the interests of our members and is aligned with the needs, interests, and values of the community.

Diversity hands and leaves

We highly value educational outreach that engages a diversity of members and allows us to reach a wide and diverse public, or that focuses on reaching historically underserved communities  In addition, working with a partner organization(s) in our community strengthens your project’s  reach and ensures our projects are relevant and meaningful.  In these ways, we fulfill our educational mission.  The Diversity Equity Inclusion Toolkit includes a series of questions we can ask when we create an event or project.

Educational projects that have been supported in the past include the Speaker Series, Share Your Garden, Intern Summer Veggie Class, Earth Day Celebration at the Learning Garden Laboratory, Cane Berry Pruning Class, Oregon Food Bank Pruning Class, Incredible Edibles (IE) Plant-Grow-Eat Tent presentations, IE Kids Grow Tent activities, Winter Gardening Kits, educational publications and signage.

If you have an idea for a Chapter educational project, please contact one of our Educate! members directly educate@multnomahmastergardeners.org.
