Topic: **What Is the Environmental Impact of Your Garden? A Life Cycle Analysis Approach

Join our March Speaker Series as Dr. Gail Langellotto, Oregon State University, gives insight into the environmental impact of a garden.  Life cycle analysis (LCA) is a method that is used to evaluate the environmental impact of a product through its entire life cycle. In the garden, these products can include plant materials, landscaping choices, and plant amendments or protectants. This talk will provide an overview of the LCA process and the LCA research that has been conducted in horticulture. Participants will be provided an opportunity to consider the LCA of their own garden and gardening choices, via a worksheet activity.

 Gail Langellotto is an Associate Professor of Horticulture at Oregon State University (OSU), where she also coordinates the statewide OSU Extension Master Gardener Program. She has a B.S. in biology, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in entomology, all from the University of Maryland. She oversees the Garden Ecology Lab at OSU, where she and her students have active research projects on garden pollinators, native plants, garden soils.  She also conducts similar research project in the Portland Metro area.
