Dry farming is the production of crops during a dry growing season without irrigation. Join our April Speaker Series as Matt Davis, OSU, discusses methods of dry farming, key strategies for conserving soil moisture and producing a crop without water, what sorts of crops and varieties perform well in our region, the research that OSU is conducting, and how Master Gardeners can participate. Finally, Matt will highlight the possibilities and challenges of dry gardening in the Portland Metro area.
Matthew Davis is a fourth-generation dry farmer and a faculty research assistant at Oregon State University. He has coordinated research into site suitability for dry farming, soil management for dry farm tomatoes, vegetable grafting, and garlic, tomato, and melon variety trials for Dr. Alex Stone and Amy Garrett.
