Growing a bounty of peppers in the Northwest may have its challenges but Ezequiel Lopez-Reyes has learned the keys to achieving a prolific harvest of peppers in the Willamette Valley. The past 5 years Ezequiel has grown anything from Jalapenos to Ghost peppers and everything in between, which includes Carolina reapers, cayenne, chile de arbol, cola de rata (rat tail pepper) fatali, habanero and Guajillo peppers! He has learned from both his successes and failures in the garden.
Join the Multnomah County Master Gardener Association’s April Speaker Series as Ezequiel shares the lessons he has learned growing peppers. He will cover the planting and growing process of peppers, and how it relates to Latin culture. In addition, he will focus on tips to effectively grow peppers, including touching on the pinching process, when to plant your peppers outdoors, and how these peppers are used in the kitchen.
Ezequiel shares: “Gardening is my passion. My mother worked her entire life working for a local plant nursery, and my father was a farmer. Currently, I am the Oregon State University Extension Service Open Campus and Juntos student success coordinator where I work with Latinx families and students in Washington County to help prepare them for life after high school.”
