Join the Multnomah County Master Gardener Association’s December Speaker Series as Weina Dinata, botanical artist, native plant advocate, and owner of Poppy and Finch presents: Kokedama: The Art of Bonsai without a Container. Learn how to create and care for a striking and unique Japanese kokedama. Kokedama translates in Japanese to “moss ball” and is a centuries old botanical art form of growing a plant without a container from a soil ball, wrapped in moss.

Gather supplies from the material list (linked below) and follow along during the demonstration or simply view the presentation to create your own kokedama later. Weina will demonstrate step-by-step construction and care tips. This presentation will provide you with valuable resources and inspiration to create an artful oasis of green in your world.
Growing up as a child in Jakarta, Indonesia, Weina was always charmed by plants and animals. While working in design studios, she volunteered for non-profit organizations around sustainability where she fell in love with native plants and conducted outreach programs around bringing native plants to the forefront of gardening. Since then, she has started her own company, Poppy & Finch, teaching workshops to help people come up with creative botanical solutions for small outdoor spaces using native plants to create green corridors in the Portland urban landscape. Weina recently launched a brick-and-mortar work(shop) at Garden Fever, where she sells many delightful products.
